Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani congratulated Yingluck Shinawatra on being elected as the first woman Prime Minister of Thailand. He conveyed the best wishes of the people of Pakistan for the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly people of Thailand under her leadership.
He said that her success had a special resonance with the people of Pakistan, where Benazir Bhutto had made history as the first woman Prime Minister, not only of Pakistan, but of the entire Muslim world. Pakistan and Thailand share deep-rooted historical and cultural bonds and have always enjoyed cordial and co-operative relations.
