Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charity Foundation and UAE Red Crescent are hosting a series of Iftar dinners for the poor children studying in different seminaries across the country in a bid to offer them a sumptuous Iftar after long fasting in hot and humid weather.
The Iftar will continue during the holy month of Ramazan, which started on the first of Ramazan as many such feasts were organised by the United Arab Emirates embassy at different social welfare centres, SOS village, orphan houses and community centres in twin cities during the first week of the holy month, said a statement of the embassy here on Sunday.
These included Faizul Islam, SOS Village, Kashana Center, Community Centre, Hayat-e-Noe and Ahata where at least 8000 children were fed at Iftar time.
It said the main purpose of organising such iftiar dinners, under the directive of the president of UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was to help the poor children by offering them good food at the end of their fasting.
UAE envoy to Islamabad Ali Saif Awani himself graced the occasion at times and interacted with the students. Besides staff members, high officials from the federal ministry of social welfare and special education and poor people were also invited to attend these Iftaris which provided them an occasion to informally discuss with UAE charity organisations the problems being faced by the students of these seminaries and welfare organisations.
UAE ambassador in his remarks during one of the iftar dinners said it reflected the true spirit of humanity, generosity and compassion on the part of UAE political leadership for the poor children."
All the high officials of the welfare organisations whose students have had an opportunity to attend these Iftars have appreciated the noble gesture by the UAE for the unprivileged students.
They thanked the charitable organisations, the UAE embassy and UAE philanthropists for their support, which might bring some levels of comfort and happiness in the lives of marginalised communities. They emphasised that local people and charitable organisations must take some lesson form the UAE for this philanthropy, said the statement.
The organisers of different UAE charities hoped that these Iftari programmes would open new window of co-operation and better understanding between the local charitable organisations, centres and institutions with the global organisations such as Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charity Foundation and UAE Red Crescent Authority.
The children thanked the UAE government and charity organisations for their noble gesture and wished good health and peace for the people of the brotherly country its ruler Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
