The senior citizens of federal capital have urged the government to create awareness among the young generation about Pakistan's history as the majority of them do not know about Pakistan's Resolution, first Governor General, President and Prime Minister.
During a survey conducted by this agency, when youth were asked names of first Governor General, President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, they had no knowledge about them and their replies are not even quotable. They even did not know about the dates of Pakistan's Resolution, and separation of Bangladesh from Pakistan but they had a lot of information about Facebook, Indian and English Movies, singers, etc.
It is shameful for us that our young generation has knowledge about Indian and English movies, Facebook and other social networking systems but has not knowledge about its history and the heroes' who acquired an independent country, said Muhammad Ishaq, a senior citizen while talking to this news agency. He said that the Independence Day is coming after six days and young and old ones are planning to mark the day with full enthusiasm without having the basic knowledge about the history of the country and they are also not eager to acquire this knowledge. Government should launch a campaign to create awareness among the youth about its history and Media should also play role in this regard, he added.
Talking to APP, an eminent educationist, Professor Fateh Malik said, "it is essential to aware our younger generation about the history of the country as well the historical contributions and struggle of our forefathers to acquire a separate homeland for exercising Islamic principles without any fear". He said it is very unfortunate that the educational institutes are not giving much emphasis to the subject of Pakistan Studies and many of the universities are even not offering it.
