At least seven people including five police personnel, a child and woman were killed and 37 other injured in two explosions on City Circular Road near Lahori Gate here on Thursday.
In first incident, a police truck carrying police personnel was targeted through a remote-controlled explosion near a Check-post outside Lahori Gate at about 7:15 am that resulted in the killing of four police personnel and a child on the spot while 21 other sustained injuries who were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH). One injured constable succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
According to bomb disposal unit, eight kilogram explosive material was used in the first incident, which was planted in a handcart on the road side. The explosion was carried through a remote-control device. Meanwhile, about one and half hours later a woman suicide bomber exploded herself at the same spot resulting in the killing of a passer-by woman and injured 16 others. The body of the suspected suicide bomber has been shifted to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar while expressing his deep shock and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in bomb blasts, including a suicide attack in Peshawar on Thursday, has said, such acts of terrorism and extremism are bent upon to tarnish the soft image of nation and bring bad name to the motherland. This, no doubt, he added, is a worst act of inhumanity and deserves to be condemned by every member of the society.
Expressing his deep sympathies with the members of the bereaved families, the Governor also paid rich tributes to the martyred and pointed out that their sacrifices are assets of the nation and will always be remembered with great respect. "The nation salutes the personnel of police force who are courageously and bravely performing their professional duties and protecting the life and properties of the people at the cost of their own lives", he added. Barrister Masood Kausar has also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss with patience.
The central president ANP, Asfandyar Wali Khan and provincial president, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Senator Afraisab Khan Khattak have condemned bomb blasts on police Check-post near Lahori Gate and expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives.
In their joint statement issued from Bacha Khan Markaz, they said that after the unity of the nation terrorist elements have adopted such coward activities. However, they said that their resolve of the elimination of terrorism could not be affected through such kind of cowardice incidents. They said that Pakistan army, police and people have rendered great sacrifices in the war on terror and their sacrifices will not go in waste and peace would be restored on any cost and terrorists would be defeated.
