A special campaign against the profiteers and hoarders of essential commodities is underway in the district during Ramazan. The price control magistrates conducted more than 3000 raids in the different sites of 412 markets during the first 10 days of Ramazan and caught about 1100 shopkeepers/venders involved in overcharging on different items of daily use and they were fined Rs 1460100/- on the spot.
Giving details City District Government spokesman, Khalik Manzur said that the cases had also been registered with concerned police stations against more than 60 shopkeepers which were found involved in serious violations of price control act. He said that the legal action had also been taken by the district administration against the violators of Ihtram Ramazan Ordinance and more than 150 hotels/canteens owners had been sent to jail for 72 hours which were running their business openly during the fast timings.
