Sindh government through its Rehabilitation Department has so far issued 630,000 Watan Cards during the first phase of relief services for the flood victims. The Secretary for Rehabilitation, Peer Baksh Jamali, on Friday, informed a meeting, chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary, Raja Mohammad Abbas that in phase one 7,21,000 Watan Cards worth Rs 13.74 billion are being distributed.
The money has been equally contributed by the Federal and Sindh governments, he said. He said distribution of these cards were materialised through Nadra, Board of Revenue (Relief Commissioner of Sindh) and respective district governments in the first phase of relief work, that is near completion.
Jamali said the remaining 99,000 cards are also in process of issuance, with 31,000 have been activated and 57,000 are under activation. Secretary for Rehabilitation said 11,000 of these remaining 99,000 cards are for people from Thatta and had been duly authenticated. Fourteen district governments are being covered under flood relief services (2010) of which eight pertain to right bank, that is, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kambar, Shadadkot, Larkana, Dadu, Thatta and Jamshoro, these are the major affected areas.
