Swat, Kabul rivers flowing in medium, low flood

The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) on Friday said that Swat and Kabul Rivers are flowing in medium and low flood respectively with rising trend while all the other majors rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are running normal.
The actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla dams are at elevations of 1517.05 feet and 1199.30 feet respectively, which are 32.95 feet and 10.70 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1210.00 feet, said the FFC daily report issued here.
The combined live storage position of Tarbela, Chashma and Mangla reservoirs is 9.407 MAF as compared to last year's 10.974 MAF. According to Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, Thursday's trough of Westerly Wave over Kashmir and adjoining areas continues to persist, whereas, low pressure area over Southern Sindh has moved slightly North-eastwards and lies over western Rajasthan (India) and adjoining South-eastern Punjab.
Seasonal Low lies over North-western Balochistan and moist current from Bay of Bengal is penetrating Punjab and Kashmir upto 5000 feet. The FFD predicted scattered thunderstorm/rain with heavy falls at isolated places over Sindh, Kashmir, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab including Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore and Bahawalpur Divisions, besides upper catchments of Rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej during the next 24 hours.
Fairly widespread thundershowers with isolated heavy to very heavy falls may also occur over the upper catchments of the Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej including North-North-eastern Punjab (Lahore, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi Divisions) during the next 48 hours.
Significant rainfall events as reported during the past 24 hours include Badin = 147 mm, Mirpurkhas = 125 mm, Nawabshah = 108 mm, Tarbela = 74 mm, Mithi = 60 mm, Chakdara = 56 mm, Islamabad = 56 mm, Risalpur = 50 mm, Cherat = 45 mm, Dhokpathan = 35 mm, Palandri = 30 mm, Kamra = 28 mm, Lower Dir = 27 mm, Attock = 24 mm, Hyderabad = 23 mm, Mardan (Rashidabad) = 19 mm, Murree = 17 mm, Peshawar = 16 mm, Malamjabba = 13 mm, Rawalakot = 12 mm and Karachi = 11 mm.
