The Sindh government has ignored more than 60 percent population of the province consisting of youth community with disremembering the International Youth Day, supposed to be celebrate on August 12, 2011, Business Recorder learnt on Friday.
The whole world has assigned great social importance to International Youth Day and celebrated it with overwhelming ways but unfortunately Sindh government's Youth Affairs Department has forgotten that day and nothing was organised in this regard.
It was witnessed that provincial government was sleeping deeply on August 12 and it did not organise even a single activity to mark the significance of International Youth Day. Provincial Youth Affairs Department, which is being run without a minister for past 44 days, had celebrated this day last year by organising rallies and seminars in big cities of province, sources said.
The Minister for Youth Affairs Faisal Sabzwari had resigned from the slot along with his other party ministers but their resignations have not been accepted by the Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah yet. Faisal and his party, MQM, had parted ways with PPP in Sindh government. Youth affairs department since then has not organised a single seminar, dinner, fun-filled event, rally, or media campaign, and the Day, August 12, passed like any other day without any event.
Some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) had organised very few normal events in accordance with International Youth day but the department overlooked the internationally very important day, and failed to organise an event or issue a welcoming statement, further observed. Though, it was expected that Federal Youth Affairs Ministry had been devolved to the provinces so that Sindh Youth Affairs department would mark this day with overwhelming events and rallies but nothing was done in this regard.
In this connection, talking to Business Recorder Jami Chandio Head of Centre for Peace and Civil Society (CPSC), a think tank working for the issues of society and conducting youth training, said that this kind of poor behaviour towards the youth community proves the inefficiency of Sindh government. He said that this is the big indicator that Sindh government is not serious for the betterment of youth community and society as well.
Munawar Ali Ring, head of Participatory Youth Development Network (PYDN) said that Sindh Youth affairs department's non-seriousness towards the Youth of province is condemnable.
He said that this is basic job of any government to work for the support of youth community but ironically our provincial government is engaged in sorting out the differences with their allies instead of celebrating international days for creating awareness among the people. Munawar Ali Rind is a young boy who has been running PYDN for last 6 years, also arranged a rally in accordance with International Youth day in Islamabad on 12th August.
Another young student Zohaib Qureshi resident of Layari, Karachi said that youth is the backbone of any nation and country but unfortunately these governments are not giving actual importance to youth community. He said that Sindh government should chalk out a plan to educate and to train the youth of the province in various fields as we can stand on our feet and could serve the nation, province and the country.
