Incidents of attacks on the supply system of National Transmission Line and Despatch Company (NTDC) have increased in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to Pepco spokesman, five towers of the company had been blown up by miscreants in last three days.
Giving details, he said on August 15, 2011, some miscreants blew up a tower of Sibbi-Quetta transmission line at Kohlu in Balochistan, whereas another tower was also blown up on the same day at Jafferabad in Balochistan, affecting power supply to Balochistan and some areas of interior Sindh.
In another incident on August 13, 2011, the towers of 220 kv Guddu-Sibbi and Uch-Sibbi transmission lines were blown up, which restricted the power supply to 300 MW instead of 600 MW for Uch Power Station. The third incident took place when miscreants blew up transmission line between Tarbela-Sheikh Muhammadi in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Pepco spokesman said that security had been enhanced in sensitive areas to reduce such incidents in future. He further said that the Pepco management had asked the Home Minister Balochistan for provision of security personnel to restore electricity to Quetta and other areas of Balochistan.
