In response to media reports regarding the damage to the Naukot Fort, a team of the Endowment Fund Trust (EFT) for the Preservation of the Heritage of Sindh, on the advice of its Managing Trustee Hameed Haroon, left for Naukot on Wednesday.
The team is headed by Mohanlal Ochani, EFT Project Director, who is Civil Engineer and had remained Director in the defunct Archaeology Department of the Government of Pakistan, in charge of Conservation etc. Lal said Naukot Fort had drainage outlets and it was possible that they might have been chocked up or closed whereby water accumulated within the precincts of the historical monument.
The team will try and remedy the situation and prepare a report which will be submitted to the Government of Sindh for further action in this regard. It may be mentioned that the Endowment Fund Trust has been set up for the preservation of historical and cultural monuments with the financial support of the Government of Sindh.
It has supported, amongst other projects, the restoration of the Mir Monuments in Hyderabad and Khairpur, conservation of the Thatta habitat, the refurbishment of the Open Air Crafts Museum at Hyderabad, a six-month conservation course at the Shah Abdul Latif University, and an international workshop on conservation at Khairpur. Financial and technical support is available to the public and private sector.
