Pakistan People's Party leader, Taj Haider on Wednesday said that about 300,000 families were affected from floods in Sindh and 145 flood relief camps have so far been set up only in Badin to provide shelter to the affectees. Talking to Voice Of America (VOA), he rejected the criticism of the Sindh government regarding lapse in rescue efforts and said the government took sufficient steps for the rescue of the people but the scale of rains was unexpected, which created problems.
He said that due to damages of communication infrastructure, the relief teams of the government are facing difficulties but somehow managed to provide relief goods to the flood victims. Taj Haider added that Chief Minister Sindh released special grants for the help of flood affectees and expressed hope to cope with the situation soon. PPP leader said that government buildings including schools are being used as relief camps, while tents are also being supplied to the people where the facility of concrete shelters are not available.
