Hard red winter wheat basis bids held steady Thursday in a mostly quiet market as farmers focused on getting fields ready for fall seeding. Kansas City Board of Trade HRW wheat closed with the September up 5-3/4 cents at $8.23-1/4 a bushel. USDA said weekly export sales of US wheat totalled 548,000 tonnes for the 2011/12 marketing year, up 46 percent from the previous week.
Farm fields through most of the southern US Plains were in need of more moisture for farmers to get new crop wheat off to a good start when planting gets underway next month.
