Severe tension prevailed in Fatehpur town on Thursday as a citizen Muhammed Amin lost his eye when a rubber bullet hit his eye during the firing by police to disperse violent mob which set a police station, Rescue 15 and seven vehicles on fire.
A violent mob of more than 2000 citizens stormed a police station in Fatehpur (Layyah district) when they listened that police had tortured an accused to death during interrogation some 130 miles in north-west of Multan on Wednesday and set five motor cycles, a car and Rescue-15 station on fire. They also set the record of police station on fire. Police officials saved their lives by confining themselves in a room.
DPO Layyah Muhammad Saleem said, "The situation is under control and I have suspended the services of seven police officials including SHO police station, two sub inspectors and registered a case against them on the charge of murder of a suspect Allah Ditta. He said that Police resorted to firing, tear gas and baton charge to disperse the violent mob that tried to set the police station on fire. Resultantly, a protestor Muhammad Amin lost his eye and more than two dozens people were injured.
