Government College University Lahore Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rehman on Thursday slashed the fee of University's hostels by 35 percent to facilitate the students who come from distant areas to seek knowledge. The Hostels' Committee of the GC University Lahore issued the notification of revised dues for Quaid-e-Azam Hostel and Allama Iqbal Hostel and the new fee-structure is to be implemented with immediate effect.
The GCU Vice-Chancellor waived off hostels' admission fee as well as miscellaneous dues and welfare funds besides reducing all other charges. Chairing a meeting of GCU Hostels' Committee on Thursday, its Chairman Professor Dr Khalid Pervaiz said that it might be the first time in the history of any educational institution that the fee is being reduced. He said that GCU Hostels already have very nominal fee and in the wake of ongoing rocketing-inflation and education budget cuts, it was fairly difficult to provide students with any relief, but the Vice-Chancellor took a very bold step and reduced the hostels' fee by 35 percent.
The Vice-Chancellor also directed the hostels' superintendents not even a single facility is already being provided to the students should be affected due to the reduction in dues. The Vice- Chancellor said that "students who come from distant areas to seek knowledge deserve our special attention".
Professor Khaleeq pledged that the university would also increase scholarships for the deserving students through its Endowment Fund Trust. He also appreciated efforts of the newly-appointed Superintendent Quaid-e-Azam Hostel Abdul Waheed and Superintendent New Hostel Khadim Ali Khan for the welfare of students.
