Islamabad High Court directed the intelligence agencies on Thursday to arrange family meetings with three brothers, picked up by them despite acquitting by the anti-terrorism court, within 10 days. The petition has been filed in the High Court. During the hearing, the petitioner urged that three detenus Syed Abdusaboor, Syed Abdul Basit and Syed Abdul Majid are real brothers.
They are all Hafiz-e-Qura'an and used to carry on the business of publishing Holy Qura'an and Islamic books in Urdu Bazar, Lahore in the name of Maktaba-e-Madnia. It was urged that on 25.11.2007 Hasnain Haider the then SHO, Police Station, Shafiqabad, Lahore, took the detenues without any allegation or arrest warrant to the Police Station. After keeping them in the lock-up for a few days, he handed them over to the Agencies to an unknown place and kept them for over 8 months.
The petition urged that the detenues remained in illegal confinement for over 8 months. Later, they were tried by the Special Judge Anti Terrorist Court-II, Rawalpindi and were acquitted on 08-04-2010. Instead of releasing the detenues on 28-05-2010, they forcibly handed over the detenues along with 8 other namely Dr Niaz Ahmad, Muhammad Aamir, Mazharul Haq, Shafiqur Rehman, Muhammad Shafiq, Said Rab, Gul Roze and Tehsinulla to intelligence agencies who escorted them to some unknown place. During that exercise some of the detenues particularly Abdul Basit had been severely injured, too. The court directed the Advocate General Punjab to appear before the high court on next hearing and also directed the relevant authorities to make arrangement for families meeting with detenus.
