Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Thursday issued warning to TV channels for violating its terms and conditions. As per terms and conditions of license, a TV channel can broadcast upto 70 percent of total foreign content which constitutes maximum 2 hours and forty minutes duration in total broadcast of 24 hours.
The channels have been issued reasonable notices/warnings in past but no visible compliance was witnessed on their part. The Authority in a meeting recently held had taken serious notice of such violations and had decided to impose fine of Rs one million on all TV channels involved in repeat violation after giving them reasonable warning and time to address their misconduct. The Authority has given final deadline of 30 days to all these channels to correct their content as per mandate of their respective license.
