The search giant Google has partnered with different smartphone makers in India to launch inexpensive smartphones that run on Android Oreo Go and also contain 4G connectivity.

Android Oreo Go is Google’s lightweight version of Android Oreo designed for smartphones with lower specifications, phones with less than 1GB RAM. It does not need a heavy hardware, storage or RAM to function. Google has launched these phones that will be priced at around Indian Rs2,000 ($30) as compared to normal 4G enabled phones in India that cost about Rs6,400 ($100).

Google collaborated with various Indian smartphone brands, including Micromax, Intex, Lava and Karbonn, to launch the Android Oreo Go version cheap smartphones initiating from this month. These 4G enabled cheap smartphones will be a help for people to quickly and easily access the internet on phones. Factor Daily wrote, “From a monthly consumption of 20 crore GB of data about 16 months ago, Indians now consume over 150 crore GB a month making the country No. 1 among mobile data consuming countries.”

New variant of Samsung Galaxy On Nxt to launch tomorrow

These smartphones will come in with pre-installed lightweight versions of Google’s apps including Google Apps, Google Assistant, Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube, Maps, and more. According to Google’s spokesperson, these phones will be launched in early 2018 with Micromax likely to be the first brand to launch an Android Go phone in India at some point around India’s Republic Day, January 26. Other brands are speculated to unveil their Android Go versions in weeks later, reported Gizmo China.

The Google official also revealed that there are other apps that will launch their basic versions for low-cost smartphones in the country. “Other apps will be coming soon. Many of our developer partners have already optimized their apps.”

Furthermore, he also claimed that these low-priced devices will not only be limited to India. He said, “Partners are actively working on devices that will be running Android Oreo (Go edition), to be launched around the world. These devices will naturally range in price.”
