Two persons died and four others injured when armed robbers entered a money changers shop at Raja Bazar in downtown Rawalpindi and resorted to indiscriminate firing. The two injured, who showed resistance to the dacoits, succumbed to injuries, as City Police Station Rawalpindi failed to arrive in time. Eye-witnesses said that five armed men equipped with kalashnikov and repeater rifles arrived in the market and entered Shabir Traders, a money changers shop at Raja Bazar.
They said that the dacoits resorted to indiscriminate firing with assault rifles but the employees of Shabir Traders showed resistance and forced the dacoits to retreat. Two employees of Shabir Traders namely Nadeem and Javed received serious bullet injuries and succumbed to injuries, as they were not taken to hospital for medical aid. Five other persons sustained bullet injuries who were rushed to District Headquarter hospital for medical aid where doctors pronounced the condition of one as critical.
Police have registered case against unknown dacoits and started investigation. Armed dacoits managed to escape from the busiest market after killing two, eye-witnesses said, adding that two dacoits escaped from Kashmiri Bazar side on a motorcycle while three towards Jamia Masjid Road. The incident caused panic in Old City of Rawalpindi and all political personalities including MNA Haneef Abbasi, Shakeel Awan, ex-Minister Sh Rasheed arrived in Raja Bazar and condemned the incident.
