The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has initiated the Revalidation Process of Arms Licences issued by Ministry of Interior, and 158 Centres across the country will receive applications. Separate counters were set up in designated centres of the Nadra to receive the applications regarding renewal of arms licences, said Tariq Malik, Nadra Deputy Chairman here on Friday.
The process of revalidation of arms licences will provide transparency and authenticity of arms licence and proper data will be available with the Ministry of Interior, Tariq said. Nadra possesses a state-of-the-art infrastructure consisting of centres equipped with modern technology and well-trained and qualified manpower, having capability and capacity to develop and manage Arms Licence Management System.
Nadra will process arms licences issued by Ministry of Interior. However, the approval of each arms licence application is the sole discretion of the Ministry, Tariq said, adding that Nadra would only process those applications which have the approval of the Ministry. He said hat original CNICs and original licences (along with photocopies) are prerequisite for revalidation along with application form available at Nadra Centres and Interior Ministry website.
Nadra would verify the CNICs from its database to check the genuineness of an applicant, while the applicant's credentials would also be checked by different law enforcement agencies, he said, adding that the Card Renewal fee of Rs 1100 for PB (Prohibited Bore) Licence and Rs 600 for NPB (Non Prohibited Bore) licence will be charged along with any payable in respect of Government license renewal fee due.
The original booklet will be retained by Nadra and all original booklets will be forwarded by Nadra to the Ministry of Interior for post-verification, Nadra Deputy Chief said. He said that Nadra has designated 158 centres across the country where a separate counter in each designated centre has been established to receive the applications regarding the renewal of arms licenses.
Tariq gave the figures as follows: 13 Nadra Registration Centres (NRC) in Regional Headquarters Multan, 30 NRCs in Provincial Headquarters Quetta, 14 NRCs in Provincial Headquarters Lahore, 10 NRCs in Regional Headquarters Sargodha, 32 NRCs in Provincial Headquarters Peshawar, 24 NRC in Islamabad, 11 NRCs in Sindh Regional Headquarters Hyderabad, 10 NRCs in Sindh Regional Headquarters Sukkur, 13 NRCs in Sindh Regional Headquarters Karachi and one Centre at G-10 Islamabad for Arms Licence Project Site will facilitate the applicants for the Arm Licences.
He said the deadline for renewal of the arms licences has been extended up to September 30, 2011. This deadline encompasses all Pakistan for renewal of arms licences specifically issued by Ministry of Interior. However, this project does not cater for computerisation of manual arms licences issued by provincial governments, he added. He said whole exercise of Revalidation and issuance of arms licence would help the government to check illegal weapons in the country, while record of legal arms will be updated on district-wise which will be helpful for law enforcement agencies.
