Sindh Senior Minister for Education, Pir Mazharul Haq has said that the Government of Sindh will soon launch pilot projects for community colleges in collaboration with IBA Sindh.
"Work has already been initiated to establish community colleges in four districts of the interior of Sindh where there is lack of educational facilities," he said here on Sunday, while addressing the faculty members of a seminar on literacy organised by Mohammed Ali Jinnah University.
He said the government was trying to reach out to common people and provide facilities to those who could not afford higher education due to cost of living.
"It is the endeavour of our Pakistan Party Peoples (PPP) leadership and remained a dream of the founder of the party Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir to improve literacy rate and narrow the gap between the rich and the poor," he maintained. The Minister said that present government has also ensured to provide scholarship to the students who could not afford education and said that there was need to take practical steps in this regard.
He observed that students in remote areas lack educational facilities like government and private institutions, however, the poor students work very hard because of their talent, which was unmatchable compared to those in urban areas. Pir Mazhar also urged the members of the civil society to play their due role to promote literacy in the country particularly in the remote areas.
