Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) General Secretary Malik Muhammad Ramzan Rohari has called upon the media to play its role for highlighting the problems being faced by the growers so as to strengthen the agricultural economy. He appreciated the print media for reserving separate space for highlighting the issues of agriculture but regretted that the growers were not getting sufficient time in electronic media to raise their concerns.
Rohari was speaking at an Iftar reception arranged by the KBP in honour of journalists here the other day. He said that media is playing a very important role in creating awareness amongst the masses about their rights and duties. However, he regretted that 70 percent population of the country live in rural areas but always neglected in media.
Print media has taken an appreciable step by reserving space or allocating a separate page for agricultural issues but electronic media is yet to follow in its foot step. He said that comments on political and current affairs development are broadcast 24 hours a day on news channels but agricultural issues are not getting sufficient time.
KBP Secretary General said that roots of the price hike could be traced down to agriculture as some mafias are involved in buying paddy, sugarcane, cotton, wheat, vegetable and other commodities at throw away prices from the growers and then selling sugar, flour and other articles on higher rates to the consumers.
