Law Enforce-ment Agencies (LEAs) on Thursday claimed to have detained over 50 suspects during search operations at different vicinities of Karachi. According to police sources, the search operations were lodged by police with the assistance of Pakistan Rangers at different areas of the city including Chinasar goth, Mehmoodabad, Express Market, Saddar, Surjani Town, Majeed Colony, Qauidabad, Sir Syed Town and Block No 5 of F.B Area.
They said the law enforcers had besieged these areas and started house-to-house search initially from Chinasar goth and later extended to these aforesaid areas of the city. They said the LEAs had detained 50 suspects from Chinasar goth, seven from Express Market, two from Surjani Town, 12 from Majeed Colony, an extortionist, belonging to political party, from Sir Syed Town and another extortionist namely Saddam from F B Area, Block No 5 through overnight operations. Police sources said these suspects, who were said to be extortionists, drug peddlers and other criminals, were transported them to unidentified place for interrogation.
They further said the LEAs had also recovered weapons from their possession. The eyewitnesses said these areas were fully beleaguered by the LEAs and the detained people, who were blindfolded and their hands were tied, were gathered at open place and then shifted to unknown place. Furthermore, they said these operations were creating problems for innocent citizens as they were detained and interrogated while their families were also forced to pay handsome amount to the law enforcers for the release of their beloved ones.
