An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to confiscate property of former President General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) and freeze all his bank accounts. The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) No III resumed the hearing in high security prison Central Jail Adiala of the high profile murder of Benazir Bhutto and 26 other persons.
Seven accused in the case were present in the court. However, former President Musharraf again failed to appear before the court. Shahid Rafiq, judge of the ATC III, issued the orders of the confiscation of all movable and immovable property of the former president. The judge also issued Musharraf's arrest warrants after he formally declared the latter a proclaimed offender.
The judge directed the FIA to start the process of impounding the 5-acre Chak Shahzad Farmhouse of Musharraf and a 1000sq yard plot in Gwadar. The prosecutor of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) informed the court that Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and General headquarters of Pakistan Army (GHQ) were requested to provide more information about the property of the former president, but no respond was received.
The court was informed that details about Musharraf's property already submitted to the court were final. The FIA in its report informed the court that Pervez Musharraf possesses a 1000 sq. yard plot in a Gwadar housing scheme and an eight-acre farmhouse in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad.
The FIA informed the court that the details about Musharraf's property had so far been obtained from Balochistan, Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). According to these details, the former president possesses a 1000 sq yards plot in Shanghar Housing Scheme Gwadar, an eight-acre farmhouse in Islamabad and that he also had six accounts in Bank Alfalah, Habib Metropolitan Bank, MCB Bank, Allied Bank, National Bank of Pakistan and Metropolitan Bank.
The court was informed that Musharraf had $190,000 in foreign currency account of National Bank of Pakistan and over Rs 40 million in a Habib Metropolitan Bank account. The FIA would started process for the confiscation of movable and immovable property of former president Pervez Musharraf under section 88, after he was declared proclaimed offender and he failed to appear before the court in Benazir Bhutto assassination case.
