Sindh government has cancelled the holidays of all officials of Local Government and sought help of Army and Navy to tackle the situation following anticipated rains during the Eid-ul-Fitr public holidays as forecast by the meteorological department.
This was decided at a high level meeting presided over by Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the CM's House, here on Sunday. The participants of the meeting discussed all pros and cons of the rain emergency measures. The forecast was announced by Met Office for August 31 in Thatta, Badin, Umerkot, Tharparkar and adjoining areas.
The chief minister directed the officials to use all resources to rescue the people in co-ordination with the local administration and area notables in their respective areas to provide relief to the masses. He also directed the officials of the irrigation department to take extraordinary measures to protect the river embankments to avoid any breaches and flood- like situation. He directed City District Government of Karachi (CDGK) to cancel the holidays of all the officials concerned to meet any eventuality which may be caused by the rains during the coming days.
A high-up of the met department informed the meeting that rains and downpour with thunder will continue till September 4 or 5 and will hit Karachi, Badin, Thatta, Umerkot, Tharparkar and other parts of the province.
