Asfandyar Wali Khan, chief of Awami National Party (ANP), has said that across the board and even-handed operation against criminals is the only solution to Karachi's problem and for establishment of long-lasting peace in the financial capital of the country.
Talking to journalists at an Iftar dinner at Chief Minister's House here on Monday, he asked Muthahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) leadership to explain their position regarding the disclosures of Dr Zulfikar Mirza. He said that the allegations made by Zulfikar Mirza were of very serious nature. Therefore, he said, the leadership of MQM should come forward to explain their position before the nation.
The ANP chief also appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan to summon Dr Zulfikar Mirza in this regard. He said that they had confidence in the apex court and it should go through the documentary proofs Mirza had and tell the nation about its authenticity. He said that his party would play its due role for establishment of peace in Karachi.
He said that they were monitoring the ongoing operation and would raise questions whenever they find any flaw in it. He said that until now they have no reservations in this regard. H said that political parties were required to make one decision that they would not support or shelter any anti-social element and the matter should be left to the court.
To a question regarding relations between the coalition partners of the government, he said that President Asif Ali Zardari had fulfilled all pledges made with ANP. However, he said, other coalition partners had their separate agreements with PPP. He was confident that the government would complete its constitutional term.
However, he urged all institutions to work by remaining in their constitutional perimeters without transgressing into others domains. He said that Saraiki province was longstanding demand of the people of the area and they had always representation of the region in ANP's central working committee. Anfandyar Wali Khan thanked President Asif Ali Zardari for extending Political Parties Act to FATA, saying that it would help bring the region into national mainstream. He said that now liberal democratic parties would work in the area and brought it into mainstream.
He expressed concerns over the attacks by militants from Afghanistan into Pakistan and termed a conspiracy to damage improving relations between the tow countries. He said that none of the countries could afford such kind of situation and said that no leniency would be exhibited in the normalisation of the relations. Those present on the occasion were included Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, provincial president ANP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Senator Afrasiab Khan Khattak, senior minister, Bashir Ahmad Bilour and others.
