India has discharged more flood water in the dead Sutlej river on Pakistan side from its Bakhra dam and other barrages on the river, Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Riaz told Business Recorder here on Tuesday. He said India informed Pakistan' Indus Water Commission that it had released 30,000 cusecs water downstream the Bakhra dam and 32,000 cusecs water of Beas river in the Sutlej river on Monday which was flowing towards Pakistan in the river.
It may be added that India discharged flood water from its side in the river on 14th August which had inundated vast areas in Kasur, Pakpattan, Okara, Bahawalnagar and Bahawalpur districts. According to reports standing crops over 40,000 acres have been affected.
Flood Warning Centre said river Sutlej was in medium flood level at Ganda SInghy Wala and in low flood level at Sulemanki at 10.20 hours on Tuesday. It said 82,400 cusecs were flowing in river Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala, 76,200 at Sulemanki headworks, and 47,900 cusecs at Islam head works. District Co-ordination Officer Kasur Syed Irshad Hussain told this scribe that the flood situation was under control and the water level was falling. Meanwhile, all the other major rivers are flowing below flood level.
