As many as 123 political parties have not yet submitted their consolidated statement of accounts before Election Commission of Pakistan. According to official sources, the ECP had fixed August 29 as last date for submission of the statement.
Out of a total of around 168 political parties only 45 including Pakistan Peoples Party, Awami National Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan Muslim League (N), PML-F, PML-Q, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf, JUI-S, AML-Rashid have so far submitted their consolidated statement of accounts.
Submission of accounts is essential in light of Article 13 of the Political Parties Order 2002, which states that every political party has to submit a statement of accounts to ECP within 60 days from the closure of each financial year, he said.
ECP had also issued directives to all party chiefs to submit an undertaking declaring that their respective party does not collect funds from any unlawful means, he said. Any party that breaches the deadline will be deemed ineligible for taking part in the general elections.
