One of the accused of the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) multi-billion rupees land scam, Moonis Elahi, requested the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday for earlier hearing of his review petition, filed against the reinstatement of lead investigator, Zafar Ahmed Qureshi.
Babar Awan, counsel of Moonis Elahi, had filed the petition in the SC on August 17 for stay order against court verdict on reinstatement of Zafar Ahmed Qureshi in Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), as SC reassigned Qureshi to investigate the cases registered against Moonis Elahi with the directives to finalise probe in NICL land scam expeditiously.
Moonis had alleged in his review petition that Qureshi is biased against him and his family on personal grounds and for some political reasons. Moonis requested the court for early hearing of his review petition on the grounds that the court has not yet fixed the date of hearing which is a violation of his fundamental right guaranteed under article 10-A of the Constitution. He has pleaded that if his review petition along with stay application is not heard he will suffer an irreparable loss that will damage his reputation. Through Advocate on Record Ejaz Muhammad Khan the petitioner requested the SC to fix hearing of his review petition on September 9.
