Thirteen more people have died due to heavy rains continuing in almost all parts of Sindh for last eight days, Business Recorder learnt. With the addition of 13, the death toll has risen to 108. The monsoon rains had started in Sindh on August 29, 2011. Many areas of district Benazir Bhuttoabad (Nawabshah) have been inundated.
Two hundred mud-houses in various villages of taulka Khairpur Nathan Shah and Mehar of Dadu district have been destroyed due to torrential rains. Thousands of rain-affected people have been facing hurdles in travel to other safer areas due to damages to road links.
Rains have also badly affected the power supply and communication links, which caused hardships for the rain-affected people of the province. The situation has become worse in Badin, while in Khairpur district an additional 15 villages have been inundated. The situation once again deteriorated in Badin and five villages were inundated. Meanwhile in Khairpur Mir's district 6,000 villages have been inundated.
More than 200 villages have been inundated in Thatta district while in Ghotki district the most affected area is Obawrro, where several feet water was standing in city and villages. Meanwhile, the water level at dam in Jamshoro has increased drastically. Larkana, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Kashmore-Kandhkot, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Jamshoro and other areas were being affected by heavy downpour intermittently for the last eight days.
