Heavy downpour on Tuesday evening lashed the city, which turned many roads and thoroughfares into streams that caused traffic jams on major roads. However, the heavy rainfall scaled down the temperature and turned the weather pleasant in the city. Public transport reduced significantly on roads, which left dozens of commuters stranded at different bus stops waiting for longer to find transport to reach their destinations. People were also seen travelling at the rooftops of buses.
Engines of several motorbikes and cars ceased to function in knee-deep rainwater accumulated on roads after the heavy rain in the city. People were seen pushing their bikes desperately in the rainwater. According to the Met Office forecast, widespread rain/thundershower with isolated heavy falls is expected in Sindh, eastern Balochistan and southern Punjab. However, it says upper and central Punjab, D.I.Khan, Hazara divisions and Kashmir are likely to receive scattered rain/thundershower in the next 24 hours.
The forecast warns that the heavy rainfall may cause flash floods in Sindh and Southern Punjab. The seasonal low lies over Northwest Balochistan. Strong Monsoon currents are still penetrating in eastern and southern parts of the country, it adds. It says more rains/thundershower with isolated heavy rainfalls expected in Sindh and south Punjab in the next 48 hours while Punjab, Sindh and eastern Balochistan received scattered rain/thundershower during the last 24 hours.
Chief amount of rain recorded during the last 24 hours are as follow: Mitthi 71 mm, Karachi 70 mm, Chhor 55 mm, Bahawalpur 46 mm, Quetta 45 mm, Shorkot 27mm, Multan 25.3 mm, Okara 23mm, Kalat 19mm, D.G. Khan 18mm, Lasbella 13mm, Bahawalnagar 10.1mm, Larkana 10mm and R. Y. Khan 10mm. The weather in Karachi is likely to remain partly coldly with chances of rain-thundershower during the next 24 hours with maximum temperature ranging between 37 degree centigrade and 39 degree centigrade, the Met Office forecast.
