A low intensity earthquake shook the Indian capital New Delhi shortly before midnight Wednesday, a national monitoring agency said, waking residents but causing no apparent damage. The Indian Meteorological Department said the quake was of magnitude 4.2, with the epicentre located on the border of the Delhi metropolitan region and the neighbouring state of Haryana.
The time of the earthquake was put at 11:28 pm (1758 GMT). There were no reports of any damage or casualties. The tremors lasted for only matter of seconds but shook buildings in and around the city. The Press Trust of India news agency and television news channels said the tremors were felt in the New Delhi satellite towns of Ghaziabad and Noida.
