Punjab Assembly in its 30th session here on Friday stressed upon the government to take urgent steps for development of areas worst affected by recent rains, demanding Bhawalnagar to be declared calamity hit area. Assembly members also opined to take stern measures against those who were dealing in expired medicines or were manufacturing fake medicines.
Assembly in its session also announced 4-member panel of Chairman comprising Mehr Ishtiaq, Dr Muhammad Akhtar, Bushra Gardezi and Zaeem Qadri. A female MPA Simil Kamran in her privilege motion spoke about an incident involving police staff in Satoo Katla area. Another female legislator spoke about general rude behaviour of police force stating that their overall attitude need to be improved.
Legislators in the assembly session also criticised for buying fertiliser at higher rates stating that these trends need to be immediately checked. A legislator from Lahore brought the attention of provincial government on over charging being done in parks and asked the authorities to take notice of it. Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman answering queries on Higher Education said that there were total 20 classes of zoology in Government College for Science Wahdat Road. He said in 2009-10 a total 187 male and female students applied in the institution.
Answering another query he said that Lahore College for Women University area comprised of 31 acres, 5 canals and 8 marlas. He said in 2009 those colleges, which showed lesser than 10 percent results, 26 belonged to Punjab University and two belonged to Bahudin Zakria University.
In the session, debate was also due on law & order situation, but as opposition leader was not in the House and the matter was left for Tuesday or Wednesday. Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Chief Secretary and IG Police were present in the House because of the debate and would be available again when law & order is discussed.
Raja Riaz PPP leader of Opposition earlier in the Assembly premises criticised Punjab Government for making a cut in Punjab Governor powers. He said they would raise the issue of recovery of Shahbaz Taseer in the current session of the provincial assembly. About funds of the opposition members he said unless they are available by Monday they would strongly protest on the issue.
Regarding question of Dr Zulifqar Mirza's coming to Lahore Riaz said he would be welcomed being a party member here and would be given a rousing welcome, he pointed. Certain adjournment and privilege motions were dealt on the occasion and the House was later adjourned for Monday 3:00 pm later by the Chair.
