Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Deputy Secretary-General Ahsan Iqbal on Friday lashed out at the government saying the rulers have plunged the countries in various challenges due to the unprecedented corruption and violations of the Constitution.
Talking to reporters here, the PML-N urged President Zardari to look into the situation with an 'open eye' and feel the sensitivity of the situation, which the country is currently facing. Referring to Karachi unrest, he said that the stakeholder parties namely PPP, MQM and ANP are responsible for the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the metropolis, adding the political forces are providing protection to the alleged target killers.
He was of the view that the ruling coalition is not meant for the interest of the people rather, he added that the parties in the ruling coalition have vested interest. He alleged that PPP besides the MQM and ANP has also formed their armed groups that is active in Karachi and no action has yet been taken against these elements despite evidences by the law enforcement agencies and the metropolis is witnessing bloodbath for the last three and half years.
He further said that PML-N sacrificed its provincial government at a time when Hakeem Saeed was killed, but did not abandon its responsibility to restore peace in Karachi and undertook serious measures with regard to Hakeem Saeed's murder case.
Ahsan held PPP, MQM and ANP responsible for dividing Karachi on ethnic and linguistic grounds and promoting hatred for their political interests. He said the Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) reports are in front of the apex court, which expose all the political parties for having their militant groups except of PML-N, adding that it was necessary to eliminate all the militant groups in the city so as to restore peace.
He deplored saying that government did not allow to brief National Assembly by heads of the security forces on the demand of the PML-N, but the reports of the JITs were presented before the Supreme Court, adding such steps can undermine the supremacy of the parliament.
The PML-N leader said that directives of the Supreme Court should be implemented for the restoration of peace in Karachi. He also demanded that measures should be taken for durable peace in Karachi in light of the recommendations of the National Assembly Special Committee on Karachi.
