Police and other law enforcement agencies in the country were put on high alert ahead of the terror alert by intelligence agencies regarding kidnapping of a high government functionary by Taliban to get free Osama bin Laden's wives and children, informed sources in Interior Ministry revealed to this scribe on Friday.
The Interior Ministry issued warning to top leadership of police and law enforcement agencies in the country regarding the plot to avoid the kidnapping bid by Taliban, the Interior Ministry sources said.
Information provided by intelligence agencies pertaining to the warning was reliable, the sources said, adding that in the wake of the alert all law enforcement agencies were put on high alert.
The intelligence agencies sent a terror alert stating that Taliban have planned to get free wives and children of slain al Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden by kidnapping high a government official. They have planned to kidnap government functionary and then offer to exchange him for bin Laden's family, sources said.
They said that two wives and several children of bin laden who were living with him in Abbottabad compound have since been detained by law enforcement agencies. They said that another reason for security high alert all over Pakistan is due to September 11th anniversary on Sunday (tomorrow).
The Ministry has also put restrictions on movement of foreigners in Abbottabad and Abbottabad Police was strictly directed not to allow any foreigner near the Osama bin Laden compound. Abbottabad Police was directed to ensure more pickets in Abbottabad to check movement of foreigners and keep an eye on movement of suspected persons, an officer of Abbottabad Police told this scribe.
