Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday night said that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has approved the project of setting up IT Campus in NA-111. The concept of setting IT Campus is to provide free computer education to the females of the area and work on this project would soon be initiated, she said.
The Minister was of the opinion that IT campus would also help in promoting computer literacy in the area and in this modern era computer has become essential for developing international links in the field of trade and commerce and education for everyone. The Information Minister disclosed that business community of Norway is ready to extend cooperate in resolving the energy crisis.
The business community of Norway would prepare energy by utilising rubbish and other throwaway material, she said. Dr Firdous said this project would be introduced in Sialkot and hopefully it will help in overcoming of load shedding and ensure uninterrupted productivity in this export-oriented city and hub of cottage industry. She said that business community of Sialkot should concentrate on providing employment opportunities to the women folk in their respective industrial units and help reduce poverty line in this industrial city. On this occasion Information Minister appealed to the people, philanthropists and business community of Sialkot that they should extend their help the flood-stricken people in Sindh.
Dr Firdous said that people of Sindh are facing multiple problems caused by the current monsoon rains as a result of which agricultural land and infrastructure have been damaged badly. Expressing her confidence the Minister said that people of Sialkot would extend their help open heartedly to their Sindhi brothers. The Information Minister said that Inexpensive "Benazir Transport Scheme" has been introduced and two busses would be operated from Saidpure, Gondal and Chaprar areas of NA-111.
The step has been taken to provide safe and conformable travelling facilities to the women folk especially female students and these busses would be operated from Saidpure, Gondal and Chaprar to Sialkot, she added. The Information Minister further disclosed that six more busses would be added to this fleet for covering other areas adding that this inexpensive transport scheme would help in mitigating the travelling problems of women folk of the area.
President of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Ghulam Mustafa Choudary speaking on the occasion said that present government is making adequate efforts to redress the problems being confronted by the business community of the country. He said export volume could be enhanced to many folds if Sialkot is totally exempted from the electricity and Sui gas load shedding. Mustafa Choudary assured that business community of Sialkot is ready to accommodate women folk in industrial sector.
President SCCI thanked the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for approving the grant of Rs 75crore for the completion of development work of Sialkot International Airport adding that first instalment of Rs 25crore has been released and hopefully remaining amount would soon be released. Chairman Sialkot International Airport Syed Mukhtar Bukhari and many others also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, the Information Minister inaugurated the inexpensive Benazir Transport scheme.
