The Farmers Organisations (FOs) constituted by the Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (PIDA) should step-up their efforts for protection and safeguarding of irrigation structure in their respective areas so that the farmers could be fully benefited by further improving the irrigation structures in the province.
This was stated by General Manager (PIDA) Faiz Mohyuddin here on Sunday at his office. DGM (PIDA) Shaiq Hussain Abedi, DGM Mian Javaid, Manager (Monitoring) Rizwan Aslam, Manager (Training) Manzoor Ahmad Siddique, Assistant Manager (Reforms) Imran Aslam and others were also present on the occasion.
GM PIDA instructed that canal embankments should be fully protected so that monsoon could not damage any construction. Canals are our most precious asset as they provide water to the farmers for agri-purposes and this helps to feed the large population, he added.
GM also reviewed the different steps taken by PIDA to protect canals during the monsoon season. The meeting expressed the satisfaction that participatory irrigation management mechanism has helped to reduce the non-developmental expenditures as well as creating a sense of involvement and possession in the farming community.
