The Secre-tary to Government of Sindh for Forest and Livestock Aijaz Ahmed Nizamani has said that a summary to preserve and develop the forest under the public-private partnership (P-PP) was in a process and its implementation would yield good result not only to raise the forestry but also to maintain the echo system in the province.
This, he said, while addressing a one-day seminar titled "Development of National response strategy to combat impacts of climate changes on forest of Pakistan" at a local hotel here on Tuesday. He said that this strategy would be based on livelihood, private companies and corporate land partnerships under which poor people will be facilitated to grow forests more. He said that this credit goes to present government who has passed a bill for the public-private partnership and this strategy was being adopted in forest department for the safety, preservation and development of forests.
Nizamani said that today climate change posses a great threat to world community and Pakistan was no exception. He said that climate change has global impacts and every department of social life was getting its worst affects. He said that last year's flood and this year's torrential monsoon rains are evident of changing environment and weather patterns, which has devastating consequences. He said that his department has evolved a carrot and stick strategy to make efforts for preservation and advancement of forests. The Secretary highlighted the priority of provincial government for protection, conservation and development of forests. He appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Forest Institute (PFI) Peshawar in conducting the study and Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) for financial assistance.
