Anti-corruption drive : thousands sign Istehkam-e-Pakistan Referendum Register
Over 7000 people signed "Istehkam-e-Pakistan Referendum Register" in Islamabad to get rid of corruption, price-hike, poor governance, worsening law and order situation and other malpractices of the rulers, said Khawaja Khalil Salar, an educationist who started this anti-corruption drive on Monday.
The massive mobile register 12x16 ft was placed in G-9 area of Islamabad following a press conference at National Press Club Islamabad after launching the movement, Salar said while talking to Business Recorder. "I came up with this idea to help 180 million people of Pakistan who are suffering at the hands of corrupt government," Salar said. He further said that he himself planned this move and came alone and now thousands of people are with him.
Salar, who is running educational institutions said that he has taught over 10,000 students so far and over thousand got free education from him. His students are working in government offices up to grade 19. "I stood up as an ordinary Pakistani and this time I have over 1000 volunteers and support of thousands who signed the register," he added.
It will be world's biggest register. According to Guinness Book the last large size register was 5x7 ft, Salar said, adding that he has plans to get over 500,000 signatures from twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi after which he will move towards other cities of Pakistan and end the march at the Mausoleum of Jinnah in Karachi.
The move was launched to seek resignation from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani along with several other demands. The register has so far been displayed at Karachi Company Market G-9, Sitara Market G-7, Ayub Market F-8, Mughal Market I-8 and various other markets where people signed the register in favour of the resolution, Salar said, adding that besides men, a large number of youth, women and old men signed the register.
"Pakistan is facing a lot of problems and it is responsibility of every patriotic Pakistani to solve these problems," Salar said. He said that resources of Pakistan are being plundered callously while poor people are committing suicide and selling their children.
He said that worsening law and order situation in Karachi and Balochistan is an eye-opener for the entire nation. The gap between the rich and the poor is widening rapidly. People in the country are dying of hunger but the rulers are spending millions of rupees on foreign tours.
