After first one’s success, Tesla to build another massive battery

The world’s first largest massive battery pack in Australia proved to be a huge success, thus, Tesla is now all set to build another one.

It all started when Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk was challenged by a billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes to build up a 100mW battery for Australia’s power breakdowns. Musk accepted the challenge saying that he would manufacture the battery within 100 days or sell it for free.

Making the world’s largest battery in just 60 days, Musk won the $50 million bet. The 100mW Powerpack battery was officially turned on last month in South Australia.

Musk has now been selected by the Australian state of Victoria to construct another massive battery system. This would be a 20mW battery system designed to support the yet-to-be-built ‘Bulgana Green Power Hub’ – a 204mW wind farm that will come online around mid-2019 and will be build by French renewable energy company Neoen, reported Futurism.

Elon Musk wins $50m bet by creating largest lithium-ion battery

The second massive battery will be build to support the 40 hectare Nectar Farms glasshouse instead for the state’s power grid like the first one, but Neoen’s managing director Franck Woitiez says that it could be connected to the state’s power grid eventually too.

“The performance of the South Australian battery is outstanding. The Bulgana battery is primarily going to provide energy to Nectar Farms and may support the grid in the future.”

Moreover, the time limit to build the battery is not 100 days. This battery system is expected to come online in about 18 months, reported Electrek.
