The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) detained 150 suspects including a leader of People Amn Committee Zafar Baloch during surgical operation from different areas of the metropolis. However, Baloch was released within hours after the arrest. According to sources, the LEAs continued operation against the criminal elements in various localities including Lyari and detained 150 suspects besides seizing huge cache of weapons and torture cells.
On Sunday, LEAs personnel cordoned off various parts of Lyari including Gul Muhammad Lane, Nayabad, Slaughter Yard, Singo Lane, Shah Baig Lane, Chakiwara, Kalakot and its other neighbourhoods.
They said that although heavy contingents of Rangers and police took part in the search operation in Lyari, however, they failed to apprehend any notorious gangster during the hours-long action.
They said the LEAs detained over 130 suspects including 17 alleged terrorists namely Rashid Rekha, Mullah Nisar, Saeed, Rashid alias tension, Asif, Hanif, brother of Mullah Raju, and others and added that many of the detained persons were released after formal interrogation.
They said the LEAs had discovered three torture cells; two in Gul
Muhammad Lane and one in Nayabad, from where equipment used in torture such as chain, choppers, daggers, cameras, mobile jamming devices and others were recovered. They said the LEAs had also recovered huge cache of weapons including rocket launchers, SMGs, hand grenades, Kalashnikov, etc during the raid in Lyari. Similarly, the search operations were carried out in Baldia and Dawood Goth from where 15 suspects along with weapons were arrested. Police and rangers also carried out search operations in different areas of the Burns road and detained seven suspects with weapons.
Meanwhile, three political activists namely Qadir Dayo, Tahir Khattak and Hikmat Khan were taken into custody from Rabia City, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Falk Naz Apartment, Sharah-e-Faisal, respectively. Weapons were recovered from their possession.
