Dr Thissera Hasitha head of Sri Lankan medical team has said that people of Punjab are lucky to have a selfless, untiring and dedicated chief minister like Shahbaz Sharif and expressed the confidence that people of Pakistan will succeed in controlling dengue virus under his leadership.
He said that when they arrived in Pakistan it was a routine visit for them and they did not know what Pakistani people expected of them. During their visit, they on the one hand provided guidance to the people of Punjab regarding elimination of dengue and on the other hand they also learnt a lot from them.
A positive change has also come in their pattern of life by seeing Chief Minister Punjab and his team working 20 hours a day, he added. He said that they have also learnt how work is done by keeping awake the whole night. He said that after seeing the performance of the Chief Minister he is sure that Shahbaz Sharif can guide his nation in the right direction in any crisis and in every sector of life.
He expressed these views while addressing a reception held in honour of Sri Lankan medical team by the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif at Chief Minister's Secretariat here Sunday.
Provincial ministers, members National and Provincial Assemblies, representatives of civil society, intellectuals, doctors and experts attended the reception. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that due to expertise and technical assistance of Sri Lankan medical team, an effective strategy has been evolved for provision of medical facilities to the dengue patients and elimination of dengue virus. He said that as a result of untiring efforts of Sri Lankan medical team and Pakistani doctors, a number of precious lives have been saved. He said that we are thankful to the President, government and people of Sri Lanka for sending a team of experts in this hour of trial and he will visit Sri Lanka to express his gratitude.
He said that Sri Lanka has proved that "A friend in need is a friend indeed" by extending co-operation to us in this hour of trial. He said that some members of Sri Lankan medical team are returning to their country but the friendship and co-operation with them will continue in future as well. He said that Sri Lanka has been facing dengue virus for the last three decades, therefore, Sri Lankan experts have more experience of overcoming this virus and their technical assistance and consultation have proved greatly useful for us.
He said that Sri Lankan medical team had provided guidance to local experts and with their consultation, High Dependency Units were set up in the hospitals for complicated patients suffering from dengue fever and a surveillance system was also set up. He said that a roadmap was also evolved in consultation with Sri Lankan medical team for meeting the challenge of dengue virus. He said that by extending co-operation to Punjab government in this hour of trial, Sri Lankan medical team has set an example of sincerity and friendship which will always be remembered.
The Chief Minister said that he has no words to express his feelings and sentiments of gratitude to the President, government and medical team of Sri Lanka. He said that our doctors have also set a shinning example of service to the ailing humanity in this difficult time.
