Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan has assured business community that special powers delegated to Ranges and police to restore peace in the city would not be withdrawn until and unless they succeeded in their mission. Speaking at annual dinner of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati), he said that the fresh wave of violence had disturbed peace of the city, which compelled the government to take strict action against target killers and extortion mafia.
He said it is duty of the government to provide peaceful atmosphere so that industrialists, traders and general pubic should work without fear. He said that peace and harmony among people is vital for smooth economic activities and attracting foreign and local investment.
He advised business community and general public to donate as much as they can in funds meant for relief and rehabilitation of flood victims in Sindh. He lauded the contribution made by leader business community S.M.Munir for the flood victims and said that S.M. Munir is an assent for business community and the nation. Referring to the ongoing tension between Pakistan and USA, the governor said that Pakistan is a sovereign country and it would not allow any one to cross its border and land on its land.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro advised business community to promote made in Pakistan and develop Pakistani brands. He also advised then to promote Pak brand abroad so that they should succeed in attracting more and more exports orders and get bigger share in international market.
Leader of Business Community and former President FPCCI, S.M.Munir said that Pakistan's economy is in really bad shape and the government should have act positively to save the economy. He said during recent Karachi visit of President and Prime Minister, a delegation of business community met them and apprised them of the prevailing grim economic condition. He said that he informed the leaders that flight of capital taking place due to prevailing law and order condition, target killing, extortion mafia and exorbitant high as well as even increasing tariff of utility and high mark-up rates.
He once again demanded of the government to hand over the management of loss making public organisations such as PIA, Railways, Pakistan Steel, Pepco, etc to some honest and professional stakeholders in the private sector to bring them out of red and save Rs 500 billion subsidies given to these organisations. He added that private sector is willing to take over these origination and make them profit earning institution.
President, Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF), Mian Zahid Husain expressed the need that all the political parties should work jointly and make this city a heaven for its inhabitants. He pointed out that flight of capital is taking place, which is extremely dangerous and urged the government to take appropriate measures to avert the situation
Chairman Kati, Syed Johar Ali Qandhari pointed out the grim situation of the economy and asked the governor to give priority to the ongoing crisis of utilities shortage such as power load-shedding, water and gas shortage in the country's industrial and commercial hub - "Karachi". Government should have to address the economy on first priority as the industries are closing down, exports declining, raw materials are getting expensive frequently and the Pak rupee has been devalued considerably," Qandhari said.
