Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar in letter written to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has requested him to convene a joint session of parliament, instead of summoning only the National Assembly session on October 3.
He added "under the circumstances it was time when solidarity of political parties and parliamentarians was direly needed. It was essential that the joint session of the parliament should immediately be summoned and a frank discussion must take place on the subject. The viewpoints of the concerned stakeholders in Pakistan must also be ascertained against the allegations levelled by the US. A prompt action will be appreciated."
The letter says the anti-Pakistan joint briefing in Washington DC on 22nd September, 2011 by Messrs Panetta and Mullen appears to have been aimed at stemming the nosedive in the morale of US soldiers in Afghanistan. The letter further said that reportedly, both persons shared large responsibility for America's failure to achieve peace objectives in Afghanistan and to protect the lives of US soldiers in that country. It seemed that Pakistan came as an scapegoat as no creditable evidence had been produced till date by the said persons relating to the allegations elucidated by them against Pakistan.
