An emergency team of the World Health Organisation (WHO) is in Pakistan to assess the health situation following the outbreak of dengue fever, in response to government's request. WHO is planning to provide Pakistan support in controlling the dengue outbreak and has dispatched a team of WHO experts on emergency basis for a need assessment and to train the doctors and paramedics for treatment and vector control measures.
The organisation would also provide anti-dengue supplies and insecticides sprays and equipment, insecticide treated curtains and tarpaulin for use in camps of displaced persons and special mosquito nets. Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had directed the Pakistan Mission in Geneva to get in touch with the health organisation and to assist the concerned authorises on ways to prevent the damage by the disease in Pakistan, specially in Punjab. In his meeting with the Pakistan Ambassador in Geneva, WHO's Director General, Dr Margaret Chan said the organisation was already tracking the spread of dengue fever in Pakistan.
