Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Federal Advisor on Textile, Government of Pakistan has left for India with high power delegation led by Commerce Minister, Makhdoom Amin Fahim from 26th to 29th September 2011. Dr Baig will be giving a presentation on "The synergies between the textile sectors of Pakistan & India" at the business conclave on 27th September at Taj Mahal Hotel Mumbai followed by meetings with his counterpart.
Federal Secretary Commerce, Zafar Mehmood, CEO TDAP, Tariq Iqbal Puri as well as 80 leading businessmen covering all the important sectors of trade are accompanying the delegation to India.
During the visit, it is expected that the Indian government would announce to withdraw their objection filed at WTO against EU allowing duty free 75 Pakistani products. The withdrawal will pave way to export 65 textile items duty free to European Union. Dr Baig will also be meeting Chairman Indian Cotton Association to discuss arbitration mechanism regarding cotton deals between the two countries.
Rakesh Vaid, Chairman Indian Garments Association will host a dinner reception in honour of Dr Baig to meet leading exporters of Indian garments. Dr Baig has agreed that it is going to be path-breaking visit and would certainly benefit the private sector of two countries to enhance bilateral trade and investment between the two important neighbours India and Pakistan in the region. Dr Baig thanked Pakistan High Commissioner to India, Shahid Malik and Trade Minister, Naeem Anwar for their tireless efforts in this regard and arranging B2B meetings between the leading businessmen of both the countries.
