Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Dr Saeed Elahi has said the Punjab government has imported spray machines from Germany to eradicate dengue from the province. Currently around 3000 machines and 100 laboratories are providing diagnostic facilities free of cost. He was addressing a seminar on War Against Dengue organised by Government MAO College at its Auditorium, here on Monday.
MNA Khawaja Sa'ad Rafique spoke on the occasion. Principal, Professor Chaudhry Khalid Pervez presented a report on the participation of MAO students in a two-week long public awareness campaign of the government. Elahi said that the government has made arrangements to curb dengue in a short span of time. He also said that the Punjab government has adopted different strategies to eliminate dengue.
The Punjab government was fighting on war footing and not only the health department but all government departments, educational institutions, NGOs, members of the community and students are helping government fight dengue. Dr Masood Akhtar Deputy Medical Superintendent Ganga Ram Hospital said that only five percent of dengue patients needed hospitalisation while 95 percent can be cured by appropriate treatment at home. He said only those patients who bleed should be brought to the hospital.
He said that the virus automatically disappears after 7 to 8 days with the treatment of Panadol. He stressed the need for removing fears among the people under the awareness campaign. Principal Professor Khalid Pervaiz said that MAO students organised camp at Tollington market and they worked in six hospitals of the city to provided psychological treatment to the patients and their attendants.
