Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that an effective strategy is being implemented for eradication of dengue virus and public representatives, administration and institutions are working round the clock for coping with this menace.
He said that dengue virus would be controlled with the consultation of experts and co-operation of the people. He said that every human life is dear to him and people will be saved from the scourge at any cost as nothing could be more important. There is need to fight and not be afraid of dengue virus, as it will be defeated through collective efforts. He said that doctors, experts and paramedical staff are engaged in service to the ailing humanity and they should be fully encouraged.
He was addressing a seminar on dengue at a local hotel here Monday. Addressing the seminar, the chief minister said that there is no dearth of experts in the country who have proved their metal in Europe, Middle East and other countries. He said that Pakistani doctors are comparable with the experts of any other country but there was a need for information and proper training regarding dengue virus. He said that Sri Lankan medical team has provided technical assistance and training to the local doctors for eradication of dengue virus.
He made an appeal to media to point out the shortcomings of the government and when it mentions the deaths due to this disease it must also refer to recovery of those thousands of patients who have recovered due to the blessing of Allah Almighty and the efforts of doctors. Provincial Minister Mian Mujtab Shuja-ur-Rehman, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Members National and Provincial Assembly, professors, doctors, Vice Chancellors, members of civil society and a large number of boy and girl students were present.
Earlier, while talking to students during his visit to Government Model Girls High School, Model Town and Boys Degree College Shalimar, Shahbaz said that the role of boy and girl students is of vital importance in "Qadam Barhao Dengue Mukao" campaign. They, he added, should strive for promoting awareness in the people regarding maintenance of cleanliness in their houses, streets and the surroundings.
Addressing the students, the chief minister said that dengue virus is found in more than 80 countries of the world and has been affected Thailand for 50 years and Sri Lanka for 30 years. He said that Sri Lankan government has controlled this disease to a large extent by adopting an effective strategy. He said that there was not much awareness about this epidemic in the country therefore a comprehensive strategy has been adopted with the consultation and assistance of Sri Lankan medical team.
He said that Punjab government has evolved short, medium and long-term policy for coping with this challenge and besides establishing anti-dengue force, a research cell is also being set up under his direct supervision. He said that a subject is also being added in the syllabus regarding preventive measures against dengue virus and it will be a compulsory reading for every student.
The chief minister further said that the new generation is the guarantee of a bright future for the country and it can put Pakistan on the road to progress and prosperity and transform it in accordance with the ideals of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal through hard work and honesty.
