An All-Parties Conference would be held today (Thursday). Director General ISI Lieutenant General Shuja Pasha and Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar would brief the political leadership on national security situation and try to evolve a unanimous stance on the future course of action after the security relationship between US and Pakistan sunk to its lowest level following scathing and unprecedented public allegations by US against Pakistan.
The in-camera meeting is scheduled to be held at the PM House at 2:00pm. This would be the third APC convened by the PPP-led coalition Government. The first APC was held in December 2008 after Mumbai attacks while the second such conference was held in May 2009 before the launch of a military operation in Swat. These were in-camera meetings.
Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shamim Wyne will also attend the APC. According to sources, the DG ISI will brief the conference on security issues in relation to the country and the region. Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar will brief the conference about the country's current foreign policy and diplomatic efforts towards defusing growing tensions between Pakistan and the US.
DG Military Operations Major General Ashfaq Nadeem and Secretary Defence Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Athar Ali will also be available to take questions from the participants. General Kayani is expected take the political leadership of the country into confidence regarding his recent meeting with Admiral Mike Mullen in Spain. Besides, the army chief will inform the participants about the decisions taken at a special corps commanders meeting recently.
Lieutenant General Pasha would apprise the political parties about his meetings with the CIA chief and other top US officials during his recent visit to the US. It has also been learnt that the military leadership would also take questions from the civilian leadership.
