Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir on Wednesday said that Pakistan has been actively co-operating with the international community to ensure peace and security in the region and no one could undermine its contributions in fighting terrorism. Talking to reporters after addressing a book launch ceremony here, Bashir said that Islamabad was in contact with Washington and discussing all the issues pertaining to regional security and peace.
About his recent meetings with US Ambassador Cameron Munter, the foreign secretary said he conveyed Pakistan's stance that it wants peace and stability in the region and was co-operating with international community on this count. According to him, Pakistan has been engaged with Afghanistan for playing its role for the peace and security in the region and is also participating in the trilateral engagements with US towards reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan.
To a question regarding Chinese vice premier's visit to Pakistan, he said that the visit of Chinese leader was not something new, adding that more Chinese leaders would visit Pakistan in future to promote bilateral ties between the two countries. Referring to foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar address to the UN General Assembly, the foreign secretary said that the minister had conveyed a comprehensive message to the international community on all the issues especially the issue of extremism and terrorism. Bashir while addressing the ceremony, he said Pak-China relations were unique and exceptional due to strong people-to-people and government-to-government contacts. "We are honoured to be a close, time-tested and strong friend of China," he maintained.
He also lauded the policies of China, which he said were based on principles and for the betterment and improvement of regional and international economic conditions and not against any country. The book "Harmony" has been authored by Chinese businessman Yan Lijin.
