The Crime Investigation Departments (CID) has claimed to have arrested two alleged terrorists belonging to banned outfit and recovered explosives from their possession during raid near a private university in the limits of Shah Latif Town police station, on Wednesday.
The Anti-Extremist Cell (AEC) of the CID arrested two Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) men from Shah Latif area who have been identified as Mohammed Asif Mehsood alias Ajmal and Mohammed Noman alias Ganja. A CID official told Business Recorder that the arrested men had also confessed committing terror activities in the city.
He said the AEC police also recovered a suicide jacket, 25-kg of explosives, one light machine gun (LMG), 2 detonators, 35 feet of detonating wire, 2 Kalashnikovs with magazines and rounds of sub-machine gun. He said during the initial course of interrogation the accused confessed that they were associated with Baitullah Mehsood group of TTP, masterminding various terror activities in the city.
The official said the accused confessed to having committed various bomb blasts in the city, including attempt to kill a minority cleric. He said the accused was also involved in killing of prayer leader in Shah Latif Town besides killing a driver of G-7 minibus.
Sources said the accused have also confessed that they masterminded a plan to attack Central Jail to get the arrested leader of Lashka-e-Jahngvi Akram Lahori freed but failed to materialise the plan due to security reasons. When contacted, AEC Chief SSP Mohammed Aslam Khan said the accused had intentions to design terror plots in the city. Aslam Khan said during initial course of investigation the accused also named their companions who were also involved in different terrorist acts in the city.
